Hongera Foundation Kenya Hosts Successful Visit by Kidshare Foundation

From June 7 to June 13, 2024, Hongera Foundation Kenya hosted a delegation from the Kidshare Foundation, led by Hans van Driel, for a week-long visit to strengthen partnerships, evaluate ongoing projects, and engage with local communities. The visit began with the commissioning of a dormitory at St. Clare’s Rangala Girls Primary School, which was met with joy and gratitude from the students and staff. The delegation also visited Sikalame Primary School, pledging support for constructing three new classrooms and an administration block.

The guests explored the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum, gaining insights into Kenya’s first Vice President’s contributions to independence. They also visited Bar Kawaga Primary School, the alma mater of one of Hongera’s directors, Wakili Lucas Oluoch, and pledged to support its infrastructure needs. A visit to the Israel Church of Africa highlighted its historical significance and impact on the local community.

The delegation attended a lively worship service at Chrisco Church in Kimilili, enjoying the energetic praise and worship sessions, which contrasted with their European church experiences. Despite some guests falling ill, visits to Sawawa and Kimilili FYM Primary Schools were productive. The team committed to building four classrooms and ten toilets at Sawawa due to its significant needs. The commissioning of the Makhukhuni Primary School project was the visit’s highlight but took an unexpected turn when a confrontation broke out during the ceremony, leading the delegation to leave early for safety.

Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in meaningful discussions, visited significant cultural sites, and made substantial commitments to support local schools. Despite some challenges, the visit strengthened the partnership between Hongera Foundation Kenya and Kidshare Foundation, laying the groundwork for future collaborations and continued support for educational development in the region.
