Step 5: Fundraising
- Community Contribution: A crucial element of the project proposal is the community's own contribution, typically 10 to 15% of the total project cost. The school must demonstrate how the community will contribute, which may include monetary contributions, labor (e.g., baking bricks, digging foundations), or providing building materials (e.g., bricks, wood, sand). Communities can also seek contributions from the government through the Community Development Fund (CDF).
- Donor Contribution: Once a project proposal is approved, Hongera Foundation Kenya seeks donors. The foundation does not have readily available funds but instead matches specific projects with potential donors. Donors are kept informed about the project's progress, fostering a strong connection and commitment. The process of fundraising involves detailed presentations and reports to potential donors, highlighting the community's needs, the proposed solution, and the expected outcomes.
