We empower the children and communities through improved access to quality education and capacity building

About Us

About Hongera Foundation

Hongera Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Kenya, specifically focusing on uplifting communities in  Kenya. Our core mission is to improve the quality of life for local residents by addressing key challenges and barriers they face, with a particular emphasis on enhancing educational opportunities.
Established with a vision for sustainable development, Hongera Foundation collaborates closely with local stakeholders, including community leaders, educators, and government agencies, to identify and implement impactful projects. These initiatives aim to empower individuals and families, promote social inclusion, and foster economic growth within the region.

What we do

Better education and learning environment

This consists of the building and/or renovation of classrooms at ECDE, primary, secondary and technical schools, as well as building libraries, science classrooms, workshops for technical schools, sanitation facilities and the purchase of furniture and technical equipment.

Support of initiatives of capacity building

This consists of workshops and training for school heads, teachers and parents committees of schools that received support. It strengthens the management skills of school heads, didactic skills of teachers and the parents’ knowledge on how to keep the school management responsible for the quality of education.

Strengthening the base of education of children.

This is about supporting ECDE teachers to stimulate the quality of teaching and working with young children. Attention for special needs will include them in education. Special activities will strengthen girls’ education.

Cooperation with the local government.

The parents and the local communities are the owners of the school. By supporting their involvement and underlining the importance of good education not only more children go to school but also the school management and government officials are kept responsible if education quality is insufficient.

Involving parents and the local community.

By working in cooperation with and additional to the local government the foundation may act as a catalyst for improving education. In this way the local government will be stimulated to take her responsibility to offer better education to the public.
